Davie Gray was born in London in 1962 and raised in Scotland, where he still lives with his family. He was educated at the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde, during which time he participated in writer’s groups under the guidance of Scottish poets Tom Leonard and Stephen Mulrine. He has been very active in the field of child and youth work, including periods spent as a teacher on a community-based project working with young people with emotional & behavioral difficulties and as a counsellor and advocate for children and young people in one-parent families. He also spent three summers working as a Camp Counselor and Outdoor Education Instructor in summer camp in the state of Minnesota and made many friends in the U.S. during this time. In a varied career he has also been employed as an in-house caricaturist in a number of restaurants in the Glasgow area and as a mural artist working with various youth and community groups. He has a long-standing interest in literature and held three solo exhibitions of his caricature illustrations of Scottish writers in the late 1990s, the content of which formed the basis of his book, A Wheen O’ Blethers – The Changing Face of Scottish Literature, published in Scotland by Lindsay Publications in 2000.
